SCOTTSDALE (BHN) - A group announced Monday that they will occupy an area in Scottsdale as a protest against insensitive big business.
Group spokesperson, noted conservative online news site owner and prominent Valley resident Scooter Van Neuter said the group of "53 percenters" (tax paying productive working individuals) will occupy a public area adjoining Ruth's Chris Steakhouse "for as long as it takes" for the restaurant to reduce their price on some fillets.
"Spending $32 for a petite fillet three or four times a week is getting tough in this economy," said Van Neuter. "I'd be willing to do that for a full cut, but a petite should be closer to $25. That's simply unfair, and we're not going to take it anymore."
By Monday evening the group had swollen to over 100, so Ruth's Chris graciously provided a dedicated protest area on their own patio, complete with $1 off cocktails and free appetizers. The protesters effectively paralyzed the business, as it was forced to turn people away because of the overflow crowd.
A spokesperson for Ruth's Chris said that after careful consideration, the fine dining chain is unwilling to reduce their petite filet prices "for the foreseeable future, at least at the Scottsdale location."
My comments: Finally, an occupation for the rest of us, and not a filthy hippie in sight!
