WASHINGTON (WNB) - Sec. of State John Kerry finally answered critics on Monday by outlining retaliatory steps the administration is threatening to take against Russia. The statement is the strongest yet from the United States:
In the face of Russian aggression toward the peaceful, sovereign nation of Ukraine, the United States has little choice but to respond in kind. With unwavering resolve, I am announcing the following actions we will reluctantly take, unless Russia immediately withdraws its military forces from all areas of Ukraine:
- Go to "Threat Level Midnight" in areas near Ukraine.
- Alert New Jersey National Guard units to be prepared to be vigilant.
- Expand protection of rights for LGBT military personnel worldwide.
- Mobilize U.S. air and naval assets in Greenland.
- Send myself, Sec. of State Kerry, to Ukraine with a personal note of support from President Obama and First Lady Michelle.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called Kerry's threats "a strong message," before announcing a quadrupling of Russian forces in Ukraine, and renaming the country "The Russian Republic of Putin."
