A new Gallup survey of America's 50 largest metropolitan cities confirms that the San Francisco area has the nation’s highest concentration of men and women who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
The largest LGBT populations are in San Francisco, Portland, Austin, New Orleans, and Seattle. The city with the smallest LGBT population in America is Birmingham, Alabama.
The same poll also rated the fastest growing cities in America, with Birmingham, Alabama coming in first by a considerable margin. The majority of new Birmingham residents were from San Francisco, Portland, Austin, New Orleans, and Seattle.
Experts credit Birmingham's low cost of living as being the primary factor for the influx of new residents.
