WASHINGTON (WNB) - Apparently reacting to the widespread outrage over President Obama's admittance Monday that his administration has no strategy for dealing with the Islamic State (ISIS), the administration announced today that it now has an ISIS strategy.
State Department spokesperson John Kirby answered questions at a hastily-called press conference Tuesday morning:
Kirby: I am pleased to announce on behalf of the President and this administration the institution of a comprehensive strategy to arrest and eradicate ISIS forces in Iraq and Syria.
Reporter: Could you please provide some details of the plan?
Kirby: Of course. The main focus of the strategy is to first stop the spread of ISIS. Next, we will eliminate the ISIS armed forces altogether.
Reporter: How will the United States stop the spread of ISIS?
Kirby: I'm glad you asked that. We will stop their advancement by utilizing a comprehensive strategy of arresting their forward movement.
Reporter: And how does the administration plan to destroy ISIS?
Kirby: Our strategy calls for a the implementation of a plan to gradually eradicate ISIS fighting forces by focusing on their troops in both Iraq and Syria.
Reporter: How will you do that?
Kirby: Gradually.
Reporter: This sounds like an ambitious plan. How long does the administration estimate it will take to eradicate ISIS?
Kirby: We predict it will take about the normal time - maybe a little longer. Of course, when discussing conflicts such as this it is impossible to say for sure, but we anticipate a successful conclusion in what would be considered a normal timeframe.
Kirby: Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.
